Acousthetics

QuietTile

QuietTile is used to reduce sound transmission through ACT ceilings, to quiet cross-talk between rooms with a shared plenum, to lower sound transmitted by noisy overhead equipment, or to reduce noise from the floor above. Laboratory tests have yielded Ceiling Attenuation Class ratings as high as CAC 51. QuietTile utilizes your choice of ACT facing tile and laminates additional mass and sound damping layers to the back, producing a composite tile designed to reduce sound transmission through a lay-in ceiling. QuietTile can be installed in standard 9/16″ or 15/16″ grids, with square or tegular edges, and in standard 2’ x 2’ and 2’ x 4’ sizes. Custom sizes may be available.

How does Kinetics QuietTile work?

QuietTile utilizes advanced materials, including gypsum board, a viscoelastic sound damping layer, and an acoustical ceiling tile face. These components work together to improve speech privacy, increase the Ceiling Attenuation Class (CAC) rating of the ceiling, and reduce sound transmission through the ceiling.

Where can Kinetics QuietTile be used?

QuietTile is ideal for commercial buildings, offices, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and residential spaces. It can be installed in both new construction and retrofit projects where noise control is a priority.

What are the key benefits of using Kinetics QuietTile?

  • Superior acoustic performance with high Ceiling Attenuation Class (CAC) ratings (CAC 49-51).
  • Improved speech privacy and productivity in workplaces and study environments.
  • Easy installation with standard 9/16” or 15/16” ceiling grids.

What materials are used in QuietTile construction?

QuietTile consists of:

  • A fire-rated gypsum board backing layer.
  • A viscoelastic sound damping layer.
  • A customizable ceiling tile face to match existing ceiling aesthetics.  Choose your facing tile from any leading tile manufacturer.

Is QuietTile fire-rated?

Yes, QuietTile meets ASTM E84 Class A fire rating standards:

  • Flame Spread: 25 (max)
  • Smoke Developed: 450 (max)

How is QuietTile installed?

QuietTile installs into a standard ceiling grid system (9/16” or 15/16”). It can be selected to match existing acoustical ceiling tiles for seamless integration. Field notching of the backing layer may be required at tie wire locations.  The tile drops into the grid just like any standard ACT.

What is the QuietTile LightHood Fixture Cover?

LightHood Fixture Cover is an optional accessory that limits noise transmission created by light fixtures in ceilings. It effectively reduces sound transmission through the light fixture and is Class A and plenum rated per ASTM E84-20.

Can QuietTile be used for speech privacy where partial-height walls exist?

Yes, QuietTile is specifically designed for environments where walls do not extend to the deck, providing high CAC ratings (49-51) to control noise transmission between spaces through the ceiling plenum.
