ICC

ICC is a 1″ deflection spring hanger designed for acoustically isolated drywall ceilings, most commonly used in concrete structures.

One notable feature is the pre-compression bracket above the spring that prevents uplift. This makes attaching drywall simple — making it a contractor favorite.

The ICC springs are typically installed directly to deck with a single anchor or can be suspended by threaded rod.

Every time you purchase the ICC spring system you will receive a project-specific shop drawing that details the spring layout, spring deflections, seismic restraint, and installation sequencing. Additionally we offer an optional service to have the shop drawings fully engineered and signed/stamped by a state-licensed third-party structural engineer.

What is the ICC Spring Hanger?

The ICC Spring Hanger is a high-performance acoustic isolation hanger designed for architectural ceilings. It features a 1-inch static deflection to effectively reduce noise and vibration.

How is the ICC Spring Hanger different from standard mechanical isolation hangers?

Unlike traditional spring hangers for mechanical equipment, the ICC Spring Hanger includes:

  • A pre-compression bracket to maintain the spring’s position and provide upward pressure during gypsum board installation.
  • A threaded bolt and clip for securing a cold-rolled steel channel (CRC), ensuring stability and performance.

Does the ICC Spring Hanger provide better soundproofing than wire-hung or elastomeric ceiling isolators?

Yes! The ICC Spring Hanger significantly enhances soundproofing performance:

  • Achieves STC 84 / IIC 70 with a double-layer gypsum board ceiling and concrete slab.
  • Outperforms standard wire-hung ceilings by approximately 30 STC and 30 IIC points.
  • Surpasses elastomeric hangers by about 25 STC and 25 IIC points.
Note: Impact insulation improvements were tested without resilient underlayment and on a bare concrete slab.  Use of resilient underlayment would further enhance IIC ratings!

Does the ICC Spring Hanger have a fire rating?

No, the ICC Spring Hanger itself does not have a fire rating. Fire resistance depends on the concrete assembly used in the ceiling system.

What are the most common applications of the ICC Spring Hanger?

The ICC Spring Hanger is ideal for high-performance acoustic ceiling systems in concrete structures. Common applications include:

  • Sound-sensitive environments – recording studios, critical listening rooms, dubbing stages, auditoriums.
  • Noise control spaces – fitness centers, mechanical rooms, multi-family over commercial tenant spaces, and any loud environments vertically adjacent to quiet environments.
  • Entertainment & technical spaces – theaters, broadcast studios.

Is the ICC Spring Hanger suitable for multi-family housing projects?

Yes! The ICC Spring Hanger is widely used in multi-family housing where enhanced soundproofing is required. Common applications include:

  • Amenity spaces – fitness centers, lounges, shared entertainment areas.
  • Trash rooms – especially when located under residential units.
  • Top-floor apartments – particularly those under noisy rooftop equipment.
  • Residential units above commercial tenants.

How is the ICC Spring Hanger installed?

The ICC Spring Hanger can be securely attached to the supporting slab using:

  • Screw anchors
  • Wedge anchors
  • Threaded rod hangers

Why Choose the ICC Spring Hanger?

The ICC Spring Hanger is engineered for superior sound isolation, making it the top choice for architects, acoustical consultants, and contractors looking to improve noise control in commercial, residential, industrial, and entertainment spaces.
